Basic Laser Safety training is required for all individuals routinely working with or associated with any laser operations. The training can be complete through Blackboard, ULearn, or in person given by the Laser Safety Officer (LSO). To schedule a in person training contact the LSO at 305-243-3400 or via email at MPeapell@med.miami.edu.
Individuals required to complete the Basic Laser Safety training includes but is not limited to:
- Principal Investigators
- Laser Operators
- Observers
Basic Laser Safety Training includes:
- Fundamentals of laser operation
- Bioeffects of laser radiation on the eye and skin
- Significance of specular and diffuse reflections
- Non-beam hazards of lasers
- Control measures
- Overall responsibilities
- Medical exams (as applicable)
