Exposures
Any individual with an actual or suspect laser-induced injury must:
- Seek medical attention immediately.
- Notify the Laser Safety Officer mpeapell@med.miami.edu or 305-243-3269 within 48 hours.
Eye Injury

Eye examination must include:
- Ocular History
- Visual Acuity
- Macular Function
- Color Vision
- Examination of the Ocular Function
Skin Injury
Seek treatment at the nearest Emergency Department.
Skin examination includes:
- Previous skin abnormalities
- Family dermatological history
- Medication history
Further examination and testing may be done at the discretion of the medical provider.
Fires
- Turn off laser if safe to do so
- Extinguish fire, if:
- Safe to do so
- You have had fire extinguisher training
- Evacuate the laser room and close the door
- Alert others and pull the fire alarm if safe to do so
- Evacuate the building
- Call 911
